The Nudj Standard

At Nudj, we recognise that sustainability is about the journey and not the destination. While we believe certification and accreditation can support brands, products, designers and retailers, we also acknowledge that these requirements may be limiting access to organisations working in innovative and sustainable ways.

To help us identify partners whose values align with ours, we've developed The Nudj Standard. Using this selection criteria, we have researched and chosen brands to work with, enabling you to achieve your Nudj challenges and aspirations, sustainably with confidence.

The Nudj Standard means we work to bring you the best of brands who are:

  • Working to respect ecological limits and people

  • Using materials in innovative ways

  • Challenging norms by finding new and innovative ways to do things

  • Supporting efforts to reduce carbon emissions and plastic pollution

The Nudj Principles

Respecting Ecological Limits

We prefer products and packaging that use recycled materials or can be recycled. Where possible we will always opt for the product that meets industry standards such as FSC or PEFC for paper and packaging. We also love products and packaging that are biodegradable, and we have a preference for brands that are building new business models that don't rely on single use components. This helps in not only reducing environmental impacts in the sourcing of raw materials, but also reduces waste at the end of the product life. Using materials in innovative ways is another way to respect ecological limits which is why we look for brands that upcycle and make use of both pre and post-consumer waste.

Health and Wellbeing

We are committed to the health and wellbeing of ourselves and the planet. This applies not only to our challenges, but to products we may market to you too. At Nudj we work to ensure that we identify products that are free from nasty materials. And we will always have a preference for products and packaging that are biodegradable. Our commitment to health and wellbeing not only applies to our human friends but to our animal friends too. This means we select brands and designers whose products are free from animal cruelty.

People and Planet

We are committed not only to ethical sourcing but to giving back. We will only work with brands and designers who treat people with dignity and respect and who pay a living wage. While we have a preference for international standards such as the Ethical Trade Initiative, SEDEX, UK Modern Slavery Act or the Living Wage Foundation we recognise other great approaches that some smaller independent brands and designers are taking, such as designing and producing in the UK. We also look for brands that are giving back. Not only through projects that support people and planet outside of their businesses, but within their business. We love brands that invest in their suppliers and staff through education or empowerment.

Innovation

We love brands and designers that are certified Carbon Neutral, but we also appreciate that this is a journey. This means we look for brands that are disrupting the status quo. We are always on the lookout for brands and designers who are doing things differently by creating new business models that reduce the impact on the environment, promote transparency in supply chains and respect people and animals. Where possible we will always have a preference for brands and designers that are taking on big challenges to reduce carbon emissions and plastic pollution.
